About the museum
The museum in Županja was founded on 4 August 1953 at the initiative of a group of enthusiasts for local heritage, who wanted to preserve the archival, historical and ethnological material of the former district area; Stjepan Gruber was appointed its first head. In its first years it operated under different names (Muzejska zbirka u Županji, Kotarski muzej, i.e. District Museum) and only gradually received permanent premises. Since 2023 the Zavičajni muzej Stjepana Grubera has been called Gradski muzej Županja.
The museum is housed in two historic buildings, Čardak and Agencija, on the bank of the Sava in the western part of the town, and has about 650 m² of space in total. The founder is the City of Županja.
