About the museum
The Kula Kopnenih vrata, also known as Revelin, stands beside the Land Gate of Korčula’s old town. It houses a permanent exhibition on the Moreška of Korčula, a sword dance protected as an intangible cultural heritage of the Republic of Croatia. A performance of the Moreška in Korčula is first mentioned in 1666, and it has been performed without interruption ever since.
The Moreška is a battle dance with swords, with elements of drama and musical accompaniment, telling of justice and the triumph of love. It was once performed in many towns across the Mediterranean of Europe; of all the places on the eastern Adriatic coast, it survives today only in Korčula.
From the top of the tower there is a view of the immediate surroundings of the old town. The opening of the tower to the public from 1 April 2017 was entrusted to the Gradski muzej Korčula.
