About the museum
The Muzej grada Pakraca was founded and officially registered in 2009. It operates in the Mali dvor – Janković building, the former administrative building of the estate and part of the 18th-century Janković estate complex. To date, field finds, gifts and purchases have built up the ethnographic collection, the art collection, the cultural-historical and school collection, and the postcard collection.
The permanent display is located in the Spahijski podrum, a restored protected cultural monument and a symbol of Pakrac’s history. The visitor centre and the “Riznica Svijeta graševine” (Treasury of the World of Graševina) were ceremonially opened on 6 May 2025 as part of the project “Svijet graševine”. It is conceived as the first hybrid museum and library space in Croatia, with a library zone, a gastro corner, a gallery area and the multimedia hall Julijana.
The display traces Pakrac’s history through the centuries: from the time when the first mint in Croatia operated there, through the period of market towns, to the rule of Baron Trenck and the comital Janković family.
