About the museum
The Terra Panonica interpretation centre in Pleternica invites visitors on a journey 24 million years into the past, to a time when Slavonia was covered by the Pannonian Sea. The centre was created as part of the project “Svijet graševine” and is run by the Javna ustanova Pleternica (Pleternica Public Institution).
The permanent exhibition presents the natural heritage of the town and county in a contemporary way. Six thematic sections lead from research into the ancient Pannonian Sea to an introduction to five habitats in the surroundings: the Slavonian forests of Dilj gora, the significant landscape of Lake Sovsko, the watery realm of the Orljava River, colourful fragrant meadows and the Trbušnjak Cave. Alongside illustrations, dioramas and exhibits, species are presented, many of which are part of the European Natura 2000 ecological network.
With tablets and an augmented reality app, visitors can learn further details about the species on display, and with VR glasses they can dive to the bottom of the Pannonian Sea. Educational boxes and workshops are designed for children from kindergarten to secondary school age.
