About the museum
The Enontekiö Local Heritage Museum is located about three kilometres from the centre of Hetta in the direction of Vuontisjärvi. The museum area has been inhabited for 5,000–7,000 years, and from the site there is a view over Lake Ounasjärvi and towards Pallas-Yllästunturi National Park.
The main building of the museum is the Hätänen house, which was moved from the village of Raattama and built in the late 19th century. The yard also contains the Vieno Kyrö pirtti (cottage) from the 1920s, moved from Ylikyrö, where objects are on display, and a glue granary dating from the 18th century, where glue was made from reindeer antlers. A cowshed was brought from Kaukonen in Kittilä and was built before the wars. The smoke sauna was built in 1937 and was moved from Muotkajärvi in Enontekiö.
In summer the museum hosts a number of events. Visitors can stop in the yard for coffee or eat their own packed lunch.
