About the museum
The Isonkyrö local heritage museum is located beside the old church of Isokyrö, on the bank of the Kyrönjoki. The hallmark of the museum area is two traditional Ostrobothnian one-and-a-half-storey peasant farmhouses, which together with the outbuildings form an old family farmyard.
The area has 12 historic buildings. The main building, Piuhola, dates from 1768. The yard also includes an 18th-century gate barn (porttiaitta), a windmill from 1863 moved from Ylistaro, a syytinkimökki (a small traditional building), a stable, a forge, a sauna, a threshing barn and several old granaries. A local heritage house moved to the area in 1991 is now used for café and catering services.
In the parish granary opposite the old church is the Karoliinikeskus, which has an exhibition on the Battle of Napue and the Great Wrath (isoviha). Every year on the second weekend of August, popular 18th-century markets are held in the museum area, attracting craftspeople from all over Finland.
