About the museum
The Kuokkalan museoraitti is a museum area owned and maintained jointly by the municipality of Lempäälä and Lempäälä-Seura ry. The first museums in the area opened in 1981, and today there are seven museums. The area is located near the Kuokkalankoski rapids, about three kilometres from the centre of Lempäälä.
The special feature of the museum row is that the shop museum operates in a genuine former village shop, and the smithy museum in a real smithy. The shop museum was run by the shopkeeper Aleksanteri Eskola for six decades, until 1974. The exterior of the house dates from 1925 and the goods on sale from the years 1930–1950. The smithy museum operates in a smithy building constructed in 1910 by the vehicle manufacturer K. A. Koskinen.
The museum area also includes a hairdressing and barber museum, a shoemaker's museum, a war veterans' heritage room and a smoke hut (savutölli) built by Puskeman Kustaa in the 1830s. Next door is the Sakkola museum, maintained by the Sakkola Foundation.
