About the museum
The Vesilahden kotiseutumuseo is located in Vilkinaro in the village of Narva. Its main building is the former Svartmark croft, one of the largest crofts of Laukko manor. The museum depicts crofter life and the life of small farms in the 19th century.
The museum was originally founded in 1969 on Tuulikallio behind the Narva school, but because a health centre was to be built, it was moved to its present site in 1982. The museum area lies in connection with the Narva market area and includes several buildings from the crofter period, as well as a regularly used tar pit (tervahauta). The Narvan Markkinat (Narva Market) have been held on the same site since 1985.
The museum sells literature on Vesilahti topics, postcards, handicrafts, small objects and often also baked goods. The museum is run by the Vesilahden museoyhdistys (Vesilahti Museum Association).
