About the museum
The building group of Lamminaho farm is an exceptionally well-preserved example of the old peasant culture and building tradition along the Oulujoki. The farm lies on the former Niskakoski bank, about seven kilometres from Vaala, near the Nuojua power station. The farm has 20 buildings, whose buildings and objects date from the 18th century onwards. The residential building, the cowshed and stable building and the three-part luhti (hay barn) row form a square yard, outside which there are several granaries.
Lamminaho was held by the same family for almost two hundred years as one undivided farm. In 1992 it was donated, together with its movables, to the Finnish Heritage Agency (Museovirasto), which carried out an extensive repair project on the site. The yard with the fields nearby is protected under the Building Protection Act, and the historical objects belong to the collections of the National Museum of Finland.
In 2014 the farm passed into the ownership of Senaatti-kiinteistöt (Senate Properties), and the renovated buildings were handed over for the use of the municipality of Vaala. In summer, Lamminaho operates as a museum run by the municipality of Vaala and as a venue for events and work demonstrations. The farm belongs to the cultural sites of the Rokua Geopark area.
