About the museum
Puolanka-Pirtti, or the Puolanka Museum, is a house originally built in the 1910s in Lylykylä, about 26 km from Puolanka church village, which has been moved to its present site on Koskikatu. The building is more than a hundred years old. The house has also housed the Lylykylä school from 1931 to 1938, as well as a dormitory and a post office. The museum was established in 2005 and is run by the Municipality of Puolanka.
The collection consists of agriculture, handicrafts, everyday objects, the ski industry of Puolanka, national defence, the subsistence economy, hunting, and children’s toys and childhood. The objects are mainly from the 19th and 20th centuries. The ski industry was an important livelihood in Puolanka at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries.
The exhibition is in the pirtti (main room), in two chambers (kamari) and in the entrance hall (eteisvälikkö). The second chamber, and partly also the pirtti, is furnished with furniture from the early 1910s. The yard has two storehouses, which also contain objects.
