About the museum
Suomen Gramofonimuseo opened in June 2024 in Hämeenkoski, Hollola. The idea for the museum arose when the collections of Ville Löyttyniemi and Jaso Sasaki, who had gathered early recording and sound reproduction equipment, had grown so large that showing them outside their homes was justified. Gramophone artist Olli Suutela is also involved. The museum is located in the basement of Seurala in the centre of Hämeenkoski.
The collection gives a broad cross-section of the earliest phonographs and horn gramophones from around 1900, through acoustic recordings, up to electrically recorded discs and early electric 78 rpm record players. It includes inexpensive portable gramophones as well as costly devices made individually by hand, and the collection contains more than 300 objects. Special features are the old disc-cutting lathes of Äänitoisto and Yleisradio and the instant discs.
