About the museum
The house was built in 1860 by Father Adamantios, the father of the writer Alexandros Papadiamantis. The writer himself was born in an earlier house on the same plot, but grew up in this one and died there in the winter of 1911. The building is a characteristic example of Skiathos folk architecture, with stone walls, tiles of Byzantine type and an inner courtyard. It was listed as a historic protected monument in 1965 and has operated as a museum since 1990.
On the upper floor, which is reached by an external wooden staircase, the original layout of the rooms has been preserved, with original furniture and personal objects of the writer, such as his psalter, pen and inkwell. On the ground floor there is an exhibition space with old and new editions of his works.
