About the museum
The Archaeological Collection of Kozani is housed in a two-storey neoclassical building on Dimokratias and Fon Kozani streets, known as the Oikos Katsika. The building was donated to the Municipality of Kozani by A. Panagiotidis, and its use was granted to the Ministry of Culture in 1984 and 1985.
The original exhibition opened in June 1989 and ceased to operate six years later, after the major earthquake of 1995. The building was restored by the Municipality of Kozani, and the new exhibition was inaugurated on 9 December 2016.
The exhibition area comprises five halls and an outdoor courtyard. The finds are presented chronologically, thematically and by material, and include older excavation assemblages such as the Classical cemetery of Kozani and the Hellenistic settlement of Agios Eleftherios, as well as finds from rescue excavations in the prefecture, such as the Macedonian tomb of Spilia.
