About the museum
The mansion was built in 1759, in the period of Siatista’s commercial prosperity, although its first owner is not known. In 1844 it passed to Dimitrios Argyriadis, one of the most important scholars and educators of the 19th century, who carried out reconstruction works for the needs of his family and took care of its rich decoration.
Colourful murals cover the walls inside and outside, with geometric designs, flowers, plants, animals, hunting scenes and entire cities. Outstanding are the view of Frankfurt, based on an engraving by Johann Friedrich Probst, and the portraits of Tsar Nicholas I, of Rigas Feraios and of King Otto.
