About the museum
The Votaniko Mouseio opened in 1989 on the initiative of the Oreivatikos Syllogos Siatistas (Mountaineering Club of Siatista). The aim was to showcase the wealth and variety of plant and animal life in the Vourinos range, to foster environmental awareness and to stress the need to protect the area from activities that lead to environmental degradation.
The museum exhibits more than 700 panels and photographs of dried plants and flowers, around 500 rare butterflies and a series of reptiles. Most exhibits come from the Mesianos Nero valley and, more generally, from the Vourinos area. The museum is housed in the historic building of the Trampantzeio Gymnasium.
