About the museum
The Poulkos Mansion was founded in 1754 and completed in 1759, as shown by an inscription above the entrance. It was built by the merchant Theodoros Emmanouilidis, who later sold it to Lazaros Poulkidis (Poulko) as a dowry for his daughter Eleni. It is located in the Gerania district of Siatista and is considered one of the most beautiful and best-preserved examples of the town’s architecture.
The building was restored with €1.5 million of funding from ESPA 2007–2013. The work began under the 11th Ephorate of Byzantine Antiquities, was continued and completed by the Ephorate of Antiquities of Imathia, and today the mansion is the responsibility of the Ephorate of Antiquities of Kozani. It was inaugurated on 16 July 2017.
Inside, the painted decoration with flowers, ships and arabesques stands out, as do the stained glass, the wood carvings and the wood-carved ceilings with rosettes. The plaster decorations on the fireplaces and the painted depiction of Constantinople are also striking.
