About the museum
The Ecclesiastical Museum of Siatista belongs to the Holy Metropolis of Sisanio and Siatista. The building was erected in the grounds of the Metropolitan residence in the Chora district in the centre of town, at the Metropolis's expense, and initially hosted small exhibitions. The present exhibition was completed in 2001.
The exhibits come from churches and monasteries in the region and include icons from the 16th to 19th centuries, liturgical vestments, church vessels, woodcarvings, miniature works, manuscripts and printed books.
The oldest icons, from the 16th century, date from a period before the settlement of Siatista was established and show the donors' contacts with artistic centres of the Ionian Islands and Venice. Among the works of the 17th and 18th centuries, an icon of the Apocalypse by Theodoros Poulakis stands out.
