About the museum
The Museum of Modern Greek Art of the Municipality of Rhodes, formerly known as the Municipal Art Gallery of Rhodes, houses its exhibitions in the Nestoridion Melathron, in Gavriil Charitou Square. The new wing on Paola Nestoridou Street presents additional works, while the Centre of Contemporary Art in the former mess hall (Palaio Syssitio), in the Medieval City, operates as a third space of the museum, mainly in the summer months. One ticket is valid for all spaces for one week.
The permanent collection includes works by Theophilos, Dimitris Galanis, Konstantinos Maleas, Spyros Papaloukas, Fotis Kontoglou, Christos Kapralos, Nikos Engonopoulos and Alekos Fassianos. On the second floor of the Nestoridion, 103 paintings and prints by Valia Semertzidi are displayed in a permanent presentation.
The Nestoridion Melathron was renovated with European funding from the Recovery and Resilience Facility (project 2023–2025), with interventions in energy efficiency, the exhibition infrastructure, the conservation of the works and digital means of interpretation. The collection is also available digitally.
