About the museum
The Decorative Arts Collection of Rhodes is housed in the knights’ building of the Armoury, in Argyrokastrou Square in the Medieval City. Unlike other island folk museums, it does not confine itself to recreating a single local household, but highlights the folk aesthetic of the island’s inhabitants.
The display recreates the interiors of Dodecanese houses of the period of Ottoman rule. The exhibits cover four centuries, from the mid-16th to the 20th century, and illuminate the activities of the Dodecanese people and their relations with the Aegean and the Mediterranean.
