About the museum
The Folklore Museum of Acharavi opened in October 2008 in Acharavi in northern Corfu, opposite the Roman Baths, in a privately owned building of 1,000 m². It was created by Spyros Vlachos, who for 25 years collected and preserved folklore material from the area.
The permanent collection is displayed in two halls. The material comes mainly from donations and purchases and is presented in groups that represent the fields and activities of local life: old photographs, books and documents from 1862, coins from the period of the United States of the Ionian Islands, local costumes from 1800, furniture of the popular dwelling, a loom, a traditional olive press, a carpentry workshop, a shoemaker's, a kitchen, a bedroom, a water mill, agricultural tools and an ecclesiastical space.
In the same building there is an events hall for educational programmes, lectures and temporary exhibitions, a traditional café and a space with traditional products and handicrafts.
