About the museum
The Folklore Museum of Fthiotida was founded in 1984 and comes under the Directorate of Culture and Tourism of the Municipality of Lamia. It is housed in its own building in the heart of the city, opposite the cenotaph of Athanasios Diakos, on Kalyva–Bakogianni Street.
In the thematic sections on the first and second exhibition floors, visitors learn about the local history, everyday life and traditions of the area. The objects reveal the pre-industrial society and economy, with agricultural and livestock production, traditional occupations, the house, clothing and jewellery, weaving and various vessels. The museum has also hosted a permanent exhibition of folk woodcarving by Kostas Galanis.
