About the museum
The Gorgopi Folklore Museum opened in early 2002 on the initiative of the cultural association “Neoi Paiones” and the former Municipality of Axioupoli. It is housed in a renovated building that was previously used as the farm storage space of the village cooperative.
The exhibits were gathered by members of the association. Many of them were brought along by refugee families from Asia Minor, Pontus and Thrace, and residents used them until the 1970s and 1980s. The collection includes household utensils, tools of traditional trades and a loom, and documents local life from 1912 onwards.
