About the museum
The Military Museum of the Balkan Wars of Kilkis is located just outside the town, at its south-western edge, on top of the pine-covered hill of the Heroon of the Battle of Kilkis, at an altitude of 280 metres. It is housed in a single-storey building, has operated since 1966 and was extended in 1971. It is run by the 71st Airborne Brigade “Pontos”.
The main theme of the museum is the three-day battle of Kilkis–Lachanas against the Bulgarians (19–21 June 1913). The exhibits include documents from 1912–1913, personal items of the officers who took part in the battle, uniforms, weapons (mortars, shells and guns) and regimental flags. The main axis of the exhibition is a clear presentation of the battle and thematic sections placed within its historical development.
