About the museum
The Bakonyi Ház (Bakony House) stands next to the Laczkó Dezső Múzeum and is one of the earliest Hungarian open-air ethnographic exhibition venues. In 1935 it was built by public subscription on the model of a small-noble house from Öcs, to designs by the ethnographer Nagy László and the architect engineer Linzmayer György.
The three-part house, with a reed roof and a rammed-earth floor, has a vaulted porch running along the long front. Behind the entrance is the kitchen with an open chimney, a large oven, a fire bench and the tools of peasant food preparation; the living room on the left preserves the old-fashioned, corner-based arrangement, with a corner bench, a table with a large drawer, 18th-century chairs and a stove. The home of the Reformed small-noble family is brought to life by dolls dressed in the peasant-burgher costume of the 1920–30s.
