About the museum
The Bátorligeti Ősláp (Bátorliget Ancient Marsh) is one of the oldest strictly protected areas in the country. This area of barely 53 hectares has preserved the different periods of the vegetation and landscape of the Great Plain most completely; its ancient flora and fauna have survived thanks to the favourable microclimate. The museum operating within the area presents the wildlife and formation of the bog; its most valuable part is the bog’s botanical material. Visits take place with expert guidance from the Hortobágyi Nemzeti Park Igazgatóság (Hortobágy National Park Directorate), by prior registration.
