About the museum
The collection operates in one room of the main hall of the new passenger building of the Mátészalka station, where the permanent railway local history exhibition “Hazánk – ezen belül Mátészalka és környéke – vasúttörténete” (Our Country – Within It, Mátészalka and Its Surroundings – Railway History) can be seen; in the square in front of the station building stands a mainline steam locomotive. The collection has been maintained since 1984 under an operating licence, researching the history of railway transport in the eastern region. Operation is ensured without a budget, through voluntary work; the collection is an operational-history exhibition and presentation, with guided tours.
