About the museum
In 2011, on its 50th anniversary, the Bóbita Bábszínház (Bóbita Puppet Theatre) moved into a new building in the Zsolnay Quarter. In the renovated Zsolnay Palace a large hall, a chamber stage, a puppet-making workshop, a Mesekuckó (story corner) and the puppet museum have found their place.
In the first room of the three-room puppet museum, children can try out the puppets of the theatre’s earlier productions, which have been taken off the programme, and so get to know different puppetry techniques. The middle room hosts temporary exhibitions: in each season there are exhibitions by artists, presentations of Hungarian and foreign puppet theatres, and material from the Országos Színháztörténeti Múzeum és Intézet (National Theatre History Museum and Institute). The innermost room shows the puppets of Kós Lajos, the founder of Bóbita, as a permanent exhibition.
