Labor – Interaktív Varázstér

Interactive science playhouse in the Zsolnay Quarter in Pécs, where physical phenomena can be tried out.

Opening hoursAdmission HUF 1,600

About the museum

The Labor – Interaktív Varázstér realises the dream of Öveges József, the “palace of wonders”, in Pécs. It operates in the former laboratory of the Zsolnay factory where high-voltage porcelain insulators were tested, in the Visitor Centre of the Zsolnay Quarter. The project grew out of the Csodák Pécsi Palotája Alapítvány (Palace of Wonders of Pécs Foundation), founded in 2007, with the support of physicists of the Pécsi Tudományegyetem (University of Pécs), teachers and the Eötvös Loránd Fizikai Társulat (Eötvös Loránd Physical Society); the first thirty experimental devices were completed by the end of 2011.

Touching the exhibits is compulsory. In the Energy and Motion section there are an energy-generating bicycle, a flight simulator, air hockey and an eddy-current brake; in the section on sounds and invisible forces, a theremin, ferrofluid, a Tesla transformer and a parabolic sound mirror; among the logic games, arch building, the Tower of Hanoi and drawing in a mirror await visitors. The Fény Terme (Hall of Light) offers a 3D zoetrope, Lissajous light figures, polarisation experiments, a UV table and a plasma globe.

The Labor is aimed at families, school groups, young people and adults alike. Use of the cloakroom in the basement is compulsory and free of charge for those arriving at the Labor.
