About the museum

The predecessor of the Bodrogközi Múzeumporta was the Cigándi Falumúzeum (Cigánd Village Museum), founded in 2000, whose collection grew considerably over time. With the work of the Bodrogköz Tájmúzeumáért Alapítvány (Foundation for the Bodrogköz Regional Museum), and the joint effort of Cigánd and Királyhelmec within a Hungarian–Slovak EU cooperation programme, the Bodrogközi Skanzen was developed from the summer of 2014 and opened in 2015 as a Múzeumporta.

The complex consists of three permanent exhibition spaces: the “founding” Tájház, which presents the life and folk art of the people of the Bodrogköz; the Sőregi House, handed over in 2015; and the Múlt-kor Háza (House of Times Past). The Sőregi House is a new building of late-19th-century character with seven rooms on two levels, 285 square metres in all; with multimedia displays it presents the history of the settlement from the 19th century to the present, alongside an ethnographic room showing the woven textiles of Cigánd. The ensemble also includes a dance barn, a 7.5-metre watchtower, a market square, a farmyard and a playground.

The Tájház received the title Év Tájháza (Village Heritage House of the Year) in 2013, and the Sőregi House was also recognised by the Pulszky Társaság (Pulszky Society) in 2015. For visitors, traditional Cigánd dishes are also prepared, for example apróbéles and kásáskáposzta (cabbage with groats).
