About the museum

The Rétközi Múzeum is the legal successor of the former Vármúzeum (Castle Museum) of Kisvárda. The building at Csillag utca 5 is the former synagogue, one of the most significant structures in Kisvárda; in the entrance hall, memorial plaques for the Kisvárda victims of the Holocaust can be seen.

The museum preserves a historical and ethnographic collection, and its exhibitions range from the archaeological remains of Rétköz to ethnographic material. On Krucsay Márton utca there is a heritage house, where a best room (tisztaszoba), furnished from the collection with flóder-painted furniture, is on display as a permanent exhibition. The new museum building of the museum is also on Krucsay Márton utca.

The museum also organises museum education sessions and events, and exhibitions can be viewed outside opening hours by prior arrangement.
