Borsos Miklós Állandó Kiállítás

Retrospective exhibition of the sculptor Borsos Miklós in the Late Gothic episcopal courthouse on the Káptalandomb in Győr.

Opening hoursAdmission HUF 2,000

About the museum

The exhibition presents the oeuvre of the sculptor Borsos Miklós (1906–1990). The selection and the arrangement were made by the artist himself; the exhibition was opened to the public on 4 November 1979.

The house is of Late Gothic origin and stands on the Káptalandomb in the oldest quarter of the city centre, near the cathedral. In 1809, when Napoleon ordered the bombardment of Győr, it was seriously damaged; in 1811 it was restored at the expense of Bishop Vilt József. A plaque on the courtyard façade commemorates the restoration.

The renovation of the building ran from the mid-1970s until 1979. Architect Hulyák Anna led the work in such a way that the interior spaces kept their original character and the house fitted into the historic surroundings. The two-storey building is decorated with bronze doors; in the cellar, museum education sessions are held. The house is run by the Rómer Flóris Művészeti és Történeti Múzeum (Rómer Flóris Museum of Art and History).
