Kovács Margit Állandó Kiállítás

Permanent exhibition of the ceramic artist Kovács Margit, born in Győr, in the Kreszta House of medieval origin in the city centre.

Opening hoursAdmission HUF 2,000

About the museum

The exhibition presents the works of the ceramic artist Kovács Margit, born in Győr. After her solo exhibition in Győr in 1973, the artist donated several of her works to her home town. The exhibition opened in 1974 on the upper floor and in the attic; with the artist’s involvement it was arranged to evoke the atmosphere of her Budapest studio. In 1982 it was enlarged with loaned material from the Kovács Margit Museum in Szentendre; since 2022 it has been visited in renewed form.

The Kreszta House is a narrow, tall-fronted building of medieval origin; its rounded, projecting corners give it a fortress-like effect. It takes its name from the spice and general goods shop that operated here around 1900. By 1703 it already had an upper floor; the steep mansard attic was added later, when the owner ran a rope-making workshop in it. In the cellar, wall remains from the 17th and 18th centuries can be seen; the 19th-century remodelling gave the house its present Classicist character. The house is run by the Rómer Flóris Művészeti és Történeti Múzeum (Rómer Flóris Museum of Art and History).
