About the museum
The village heritage house was handed over in 2013, a few hundred metres from the centre of Bugyi. Its aim is to preserve, care for and present Hungarian folk culture, especially folk crafts and handicraft traditions; it is also a landmark in the village, where visitors can get to know the culture of the area and the village.
The building consists of six parts. The vestibule (pitvar), the kitchen and the best room (tisztaszoba) form a permanent exhibition furnished with period-accurate furniture and utensils; the objects were given by local residents. The búbos kemence (domed oven) connects the best room and the kitchen; in craft camps and group visits bread and lángos (fried dough) are baked in it.
The exhibition room hosts temporary exhibitions, lectures and summer craft camps. The barn (csűr) presents peasant culture and is a venue for workshops; the multifunctional room is home to folk crafts and museum education sessions. The building was made barrier-free while retaining its period style.
