About the museum
The reed-roofed house complex of the Ócsa Heritage House stands in the middle of the old village (Öregfalu), part of the Ócsa Landscape Protection Area, next to the Romanesque Árpád-era church. In the dwelling house the furnishings of the prosperous peasant household of the 1920s–30s are shown, largely with objects, clothes and furniture collected locally. In the warming room are bread-baking tools, the still-working búbos oven (domed oven) and a csikó stove (csikótűzhely).
The Turjánház presents the wildlife of the marshlands around Ócsa and the methods of nature conservation management, together with Ice Age mammoth remains. In the Ágas House (Ágasház), local private collections (egg decoration, bead stringing, minerals, straw plaiting, school history) are on view. In 2008 the complex was enlarged with a folk costume collection, in which nearly fifty textile dolls show the costume of Ócsa and other regions. In the outbuildings and courtyard, farming tools, a smokehouse, and a spice and medicinal herb garden can be seen. In 2006 the heritage house received the “Az Év Tájháza” (Heritage House of the Year) award from the Magyarországi Tájházak Szövetsége (Association of Hungarian Heritage Houses), and in 2015 it was included in the settlement’s local heritage register.
