About the museum
The Csepeli Helytörténeti Gyűjtemény (Csepel Local History Collection) presents the past of District XXI in the building on Szent István út. Its predecessors had been collecting material, memories and local curiosities important to the history of Csepel since the 1960s. The collection presents the history of the district from its beginnings to today through objects, old maps and archival newsreel excerpts, and deals separately with the archaeological history of Csepel and the history of the factory.
The exhibition “Csepel és a gyár története” (Csepel and the History of the Factory) presents the most valuable and most interesting pieces of the collection in more than three hundred square metres. Its special features are the tactile object reconstructions, the living picture (élőkép), the cab of a Csepel lorry and the minting of a commemorative medal with a press machine. The collection offers guided tours in Hungarian; admission is free for everyone. The research service operates by prior registration.
