About the museum
The Csömör village museum opened on 20 August 1997. The exhibition was created from donations by the residents of Csömör and is still growing; its curators are members of the founding Báló Lipót Cultural Association (Báló Lipót Kulturális Egyesület).
The collection presents the traditional furnishings of local houses and peasant costume. Its most valuable piece of furniture is a large painted chest from the 1860s. The best room also reflects the families’ wealth: the number of cushions was twelve for the wealthier families and six for the poorer ones.
Other highlights of the exhibition are a cradle from 1912, a multilingual prayer book with clasp from 1911, a bridal dress typical of Csömör from the 1950s, and the embroidered wall cloths and decorative plates in the kitchen. The courtyard oven hosts the museum’s traditional events, such as the Museum Night (Múzeumok Éjszakája) and the bread blessing on St Stephen’s Day (20 August).
