About the museum
The Vilma-ház is the house built in 1839 by the Reformed Puskás family in Somogyszob, the village’s first brick-built peasant house. After Puskás Vilma died, it received national protection in 1982 and came into the ownership of the municipality. The renovation was delayed by about twenty years; the house reopened on 6 September 2003, run jointly by the Vilma Háza Alapítvány (Vilma House Foundation) and the local government. From 2009 it has been an officially registered museum with a museum collection.
Visitors can see the large smoke kitchen with a bread-baking oven and a duck-roasting oven, and two rooms with tiled stoves. In the courtyard, new buildings were created between 2014 and 2021: a smithy, a joinery and cooperage workshop, a tool store, a loft exhibition, a pantry, a cellar relocated from Segesd, and a small “Budi” museum. Most of the collection comes from donations by local people, and collecting continues today. The house also organises craft activities: pottery, weaving and candle dipping.
