About the museum
The Dorogi Sportmúzeum opened on 13 November 1999 at a celebration marking the 85th anniversary of the Dorog sports club. The idea was taken up by mayor Tittmann János and sports historian Szabó Gyula, a local author; the exhibition was set up by the club’s management, the town and the circle of supporters.
The museum is housed in the club’s clubhouse, built in 1895, which was originally intended as the headquarters of the gendarmerie and then as a railway station, and came into the club’s possession in the 1920s. The collection has continued to grow since then; the building was renovated in 2002 and again in 2014.
On the first floor, several thousand sports relics can be seen: photographs, documents, cups, medals, flags, posters, match tickets and sound recordings. The display recalls the club’s sections, from athletics through football to wrestling. A special highlight is the Wall of Dorog Olympians (Dorogi Olimpikonok Fala), which presents Olympic participants from the town.
