About the museum
The Kesztölc Village Museum has operated since 1964 in an 18th-century peasant house. The collection consists of three parts: ethnographic, archaeological-historical and agricultural. The ethnographic material presents the old household objects, furniture and costume memorabilia of the village's Slovak and Hungarian residents, including 19th-century Slovak folk costume.
The archaeological-historical collection displays material and written remains from the Bronze Age to the most recent times; alongside prehistoric urns, a fragment of a Roman tombstone with a human head is a particular rarity. The third, substantial part of the collection is in the courtyard, under a lean-to roof: larger agricultural and industrial-historical memorabilia, such as spinning wheels, flax combs, threshing machines, wooden ploughs, wheelbarrows, chaff cutters and hand millstones, as well as witnesses to the mining in the area.
