About the museum
The Karacs Ferenc Museum is named after Karacs Ferenc (1770–1838), born in Ladány, who was a popular map and copper-plate engraver and illustrator in Budapest. The collection named after him began as a school museum in 1959, organised by Rettegi Istvánné. On 1 October 1978 it was officially inaugurated as the Karacs Ferenc Múzeum in a solemn ceremony.
The museum preserves the local history and ethnographic relics of Püspökladány. Its permanent exhibitions present the life and work of Karacs Ferenc and the history of the Bihar Nagy-Sárrét from its drainage up to 1914.
The museum also runs a local friends’ circle and museum education programmes, and organises festive quizzes linked to holidays and a summer camp.
