About the museum

The collection presents the work of the famous Karcag physician and pharmacist Kátai Gábor and offers a taste of the atmosphere of old pharmacies. It displays original fittings and medical instruments.

Karcag Városi Önkormányzat (Karcag Municipal Council) founded the Orvostörténeti és Patikagyűjtemény (History of Medicine and Pharmacy Collection) in 2003 and entrusted the Déryné Művelődési és Ifjúsági Központ (Déryné Cultural and Youth Centre) with its operation. The exhibition also recalls the pharmacy between the two world wars, which the locals called the Solcz patika after its owner, the licensed pharmacist Solcz (from 1943 Szepesváry) Gábor. Solcz Gábor was born in Komádi in 1886 and died in Karcag in 1967.
