About the museum
The Kühár Emlékház (Kühár Memorial House) operates in the former presbytery beside the church in Felsőszölnök, where Kossics József, parish priest and researcher of ethnography and local history, lived and worked in the 19th century. The building is named after its last resident, Kühár János, the last parish priest of the Slovenes of the Szentgotthárd area, who served here for fifty years, until 1987.
The heritage house was established by the Országos Szlovén Önkormányzat (National Slovene Self-Government). It has held an operating licence since 2 March 2010 and opened its doors on 11 September 2010. Its aim is to collect, preserve and present the historical, church-historical and ethnographic values of the Slovenes in Hungary. The house contains a church-history and ethnographic exhibition; guided tours are conducted in Slovene and Hungarian.
