About the museum
Móra Ferenc was born on 19 July 1879 in this small reed-roofed house of the Great Plain, the eighth child of the family. The birthplace was handed over in a solemn ceremony in 1972, on the 38th anniversary of the writer’s death. For a long time the house on Daru utca was regarded as the birthplace; only in 1955 did research by Mezősi Károly reveal that the writer had in fact been born at Szarvas utca 19.
The exhibition leads through the life of Móra Ferenc, highlighting the close relationship between the town and the writer. Through the entrance hall one reaches the open-hearth kitchen, which recalls the memory of the mother and bread baking; the third room is the workshop of Móra Márton, master furrier.
