About the museum
Petőfi Sándor’s father, Petrovics István, rented a house from 1824 to 1830 on the plot at today’s Petőfi Sándor utca 7, where the poet spent his early childhood. The house, with clay-walled and reed-thatched construction, was demolished in 1840; on its site, the museum building now houses a permanent exhibition presenting Petőfi and his period, with local references. Kiskunfélegyháza has honoured the poet since 1860, when a commemorative plaque was placed on the stone wall of the Petrovics house.
The exhibition “Petőfi Félegyházája – Félegyháza Petőfije” (Petőfi’s Félegyháza – Félegyháza’s Petőfi) presents the poet’s life, family, schools and loves, the revolutionary poet and soldier, the battlefield at Segesvár, and the Petőfi cult memorabilia in Félegyháza. A separate memorial room commemorates Fekete János, local historian and Petőfi researcher.
