About the museum
Vajda Lajos (1908–1941) was one of the most gifted and outstanding figures of 20th-century Hungarian art. His art ranged from Constructivism through Surrealism to highly individual, transparent drawings. At the end of his short life he developed unusual abstract works, in which the tragedy of the young artist, who died early, and the drama of the whole era are reflected.
Vajda Lajos’s name is closely bound up with Szentendre: his drawings weave together the town’s architectural motifs and the stages of his personal life. The Vajda Múzeum is housed in an early-20th-century townhouse with a verandah and a fine view of the Danube.
The 110-item Lajos Vajda collection of the Ferenczy Múzeumi Centrum gives a complete picture of the development of an oeuvre that unfolded in barely fifteen years.
