Vésztő-Mágor Történelmi Emlékhely

Open-air archaeological site with two mounds in the former bed of the Sebes-Körös: Neolithic and Copper Age settlement traces, the ruins of the Csolt clan’s monastery, an exhibition in the Weinckheim cellar and the Sculpture Park of the Populist Writers.

Opening hoursAdmission HUF 1,500

About the museum

On the site, in the nature-protection area enclosed by the bends of the former bed of the Sebes-Körös, there are two mounds, 9–10 metres high and extensive. A section cut into one of the earth mounds presents the everyday life and beliefs of successive peoples through finds from Neolithic, Copper Age and Bronze Age houses, pits, hearths and parts of cemeteries. Here the remains of the 10th–12th-century Árpád-period monastery of the Csolt clan were also uncovered.

The permanent exhibition opened on 25 August 1982 and presents the history of the hill from the Neolithic to the Ottoman occupation; the finds excavated here are displayed in the Weinckheim wine cellar, built between 1810 and 1812. The site includes the Pákásztanya, a reconstruction of a Neolithic house, the educational trail along the Holt-Sebes-Körös, and the Sculpture Park of the Populist Writers (Népi Írók Szoborparkja).
