About the museum
The Antiquarium comunale di Carassai was reorganised and opened in October 2008 on the ground and first floors of the town hall. It holds around four hundred finds, more than half of them Roman, coming from the municipal territory: mainly from the Rocca Monte Varmine area, the locality of San Vito, the Sant'Agata necropolis and the fields along the Aso river and the Menocchia stream.
The collection covers a period from the Bronze Age to the post-medieval era. Among the most significant materials are Picene bronze ornaments, particularly from the 7th and 6th centuries BC, protohistoric pottery fragments, Roman coins and oil lamps, amphora necks, dolia, loom weights and Latin funerary inscriptions. Also on display are a replica of a hand cannon, found in the 19th century and now lost, and an ushabti of the imperial period in Egyptian style.
A permanent photographic exhibition also documents the history of the town.
