About the museum
The house at Via Cima 24 is the home where Giovanni Battista Cima da Conegliano, a leading figure of Venetian Renaissance painting, was born and grew up, and where he returned several times even after becoming famous. The building, abandoned for years, was bought by Camillo Vazzoler, who had major restoration work carried out between 1975 and early 1977 under the supervision of the archaeological heritage authority (Soprintendenza) of Padua.
The house museum opened to visitors on 5 June 1977. The simple façade recalls 15th-century lines; beyond the entrance door a large hall opens with reproductions of the painter’s main works, accompanied by captions. The restorations also brought to light a stratigraphy containing pottery fragments from the Late Bronze Age (14th–13th century BC), which are now presented in a small archaeological museum.
The Fondazione G.B. Cima da Conegliano, which promotes conferences and studies on the painter, is also housed in the building. A digital project of the foundation also offers a high-definition virtual tour of the house and of the imaging techniques applied to cultural heritage.
