About the museum
The museum is located in the Seminario Vescovile of Vittorio Veneto and is named after Don Antonio De Nardi (1928-1994), the seminary's natural science teacher. He founded it, starting from the specimens of a pre-existing physics cabinet and adding samples he collected himself and materials gathered by his predecessors, Monsignor Bianchini and Monsignor Buffon.
Its most distinctive feature is its attention to the local natural heritage: the rock collection, with more than 800 magmatic, metamorphic and sedimentary specimens, comes entirely from the Vittorio Veneto area. Among the minerals are groups of stalactites from Postojna; among the vertebrate fossils are some fish from Bolca and nine specimens of cave bear from Velo, in the province of Verona. The invertebrate fossils include a group of local ammonites, while the botany section has lignite, amber with inclusions, silicified woods and plant fossils from Bolca.
Worthy of mention are the rich bird collection, which offers a complete picture of the local birdlife, and the zoology rooms with exotic animals. The museum runs educational activities for nursery, primary and secondary schools, with workshops on fossils, water, anatomy and nature.
