About the museum
The museum is in Conegliano, in Piazza San Martino, in a wing of the former Dominican convent of the Venetian period. After the Napoleonic conquests the building was confiscated and under the Austrian Empire became a barracks known as the “Marras”; the wing that housed the stables was renovated in 2006 and granted to the Conegliano section of the ANA (Associazione Nazionale Alpini), which opened the museum the same year.
The museum preserves relics, uniforms and weapons from the two world wars, with texts and images that trace the history of the Alpine troops from their founding in 1872 to the present day. One room is devoted to the Conegliano Alpine Corps and its actions in the two conflicts; there is also a permanent space with memorabilia of the 3rd Mountain Artillery Regiment of Tolmezzo.
It presents itself as a “living museum, not static”, which alongside the permanent display offers rotating thematic exhibitions and educational activities for schools. It is recognised by the Veneto Region under regional law 17/2019 (decree 203 of 4 July 2022).
